Are you struggling with the clutter that seems to accumulate in your home or office? Feeling a little overwhelmed with where to begin and how to start to make a difference?

Can I suggest that ridding yourself of one item per day for a year will change your life!  Imagine 365 items gone! Would it make a difference? Do you believe that you can let one thing a day go? I KNOW you can!

Start with easy things. Things that might even be just trash! Choose a time each day to deal with this project … maybe it is right after you finish dressing in the morning, or if you are work, during your morning break. It should take less than one minute to scan the area, select and item and either toss it, add it to a “donate” box you have labeled. The donation box can be distributed on a day when you have 10 minutes to drop it off!

Just one item a day! Oh–by the way. If you bring something new into your space, the rules for this game require you eliminate the daily “one,” AS WELL AS one item for each new item you bring in.  So, be careful what you allow into your space! Remember that everyTHING we bring into our lives–stuff, commitments, relationships, food–requires our energy and time in one form or another.

So–what is the item you will eliminate TODAY! I’d love to know what you want to let go!!

Oh–and by the way. The rules of the game DO allow for you to get excited and eliminate more than one thing a day. In fact … there are no limits! Go for it!

Did you know that getting organized can decrease the amount of time you need to spend on housework by 40% (according to the National Organization of Professional Organizers). Don’t know about you, but it seems to me it would be worth a few hours of focused work on any space that is driving you crazy to save that much time–again and again!

Happy Organizing!!!

If you are frustrated with all the information coming at you 24-7, there is something you can quickly and easily do about it! Most of the junk mail we receive is not anything we have requested. Companies are very savvy at collecting our information, then using it to their advantage.

Here are a few sites you can visit to get your name off mailing lists, emailing lists, catalogue lists, call lists, and etc. Give yourself a gift at this time of year–eliminate  the information overload that complicates and clutters your life and your space!

Give your mailbox a makeover:   Direct Marketing Choice

Eliminate telemarketers: DoNotCall

Opt out of receiving catalogs:  CatalogChoice

Stop Credit Card Offers: 1-888-5OPT-OUT or OPT OUT ONLINE

Once you have stopped the flood, don’t allow further leaks! Stop giving our your address and/or phone number unless it is absolutely necessary. If it is required, insist that it not be sold or shared.

If you move, don not use the address change kit provided by the post office–just another leak!

If  it seems paper is coming at you from all directions, here are a few hints to help you control the ambush!

(1)    Don’t let it in!  Never let that junk mail into your home or office. Recycle or shred it before you come in the door.  You can also request your name be removed from mailing lists.

(2)     Give it a home!  Create an action file where you can deposit items that require you to do something–PAY, READ, FILE–etc.  Make it convenient and check it regularly!

(3)     Don’t print emails, web pages, or any document that can be filed electronically.  Learn to file on your computer–save time, energy, and space–not to mention trees!  Treat yourself to a great scanner!

(4)     Be strict on what you keep.  Most of us never look at 90 percent of what we file again.  Learn what you really need to keep and know you can find so much online that you don’t need to keep what your parents and grandparents did!

(5)    Set up a simple filing system that you will actually use!  Make it easy to file, easy to find, easy to update.  My favorite is the FreedomFiler.  For a discount on this INCREDIBLE system, click on the logo below.
